Apprenticeship Overview

The Level 3 Improvement Technician Apprenticeship is designed for individuals who support and deliver continuous improvement activities within their organisation. This programme develops the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to become an effective improvement champion, using recognised improvement methodologies to solve problems, manage change, and enhance performance. Delivered through a blended learning approach of face-to-face tutorials, remote workshops, and work-based learning, the apprenticeship equips learners to drive sustainable improvements across a wide range of sectors.

Who Is This Apprenticeship For?

This Improvement Technician Apprenticeship is designed for individuals who support and deliver improvement activities within a defined area of responsibility. Technicians typically work as part of an operational team, helping to solve problems, prevent recurrence, and engage colleagues in improving performance. They are employed across a wide range of sectors, including automotive, banking, engineering, food production, IT, property, retail, and telecoms.

Learners Will

  • Be assigned a qualified tutor who provides one-to-one mentoring, with visits every 4–6 weeks
  • Engage in a blended learning approach combining face-to-face tutorials, remote workshops, online learning, and on-the-job improvement activities
  • Complete a minimum of 6 hours of protected study time per week, including structured learning, workplace projects, and portfolio development
  • Gain hands-on experience applying continuous improvement tools and techniques, including data analysis, root cause analysis, process mapping, and change management within their workplace

The Apprenticeship Journey

This apprenticeship is delivered through a blended learning approach, combining face-to-face tutorials, remote workshops, online learning resources, and practical, work-based improvement activities. Learners are supported throughout the programme by a dedicated, qualified tutor who provides regular one-to-one mentoring and progress reviews. The apprenticeship is structured around key themes of planning, implementation, and reporting, enabling learners to apply continuous improvement tools and techniques directly within their role. Learners must commit to at least 6 hours of protected study time each week to complete learning activities, formal assessments, and build a portfolio of evidence, ensuring a practical and well-rounded development journey.

End Point Assessment (EPA)

The final assessment for this apprenticeship includes:

  1. Project Report, Presentation and Questioning:
    Learners complete and present a workplace improvement project, demonstrating their ability to apply improvement methodologies, analyse data, and deliver sustainable change.

  2. Multiple Choice Questionnaire (MCQ):
    A knowledge-based assessment covering core principles of continuous improvement, problem-solving techniques, and improvement tools.

  3. Professional Discussion underpinned by a CPD Log:
    A structured discussion where learners reflect on their development, supported by a continuous professional development log and evidence from their apprenticeship.
