We’re excited to be looking for a passionate, driven Childcare Early Years Assistant Apprentice with a hunger to learn, to join our family. No experience is required as long as you can show you have potential to learn and a passion for inspiring the children we care for.

You’ll be proactive in seeking to understand the EYFS framework and everything Ofsted. - To develop a good knowledge of safeguarding issues and learn to identify signs of possible abuse or neglect and respond in a timely and appropriate way
- To contribute a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for all children in the nursery
- To give support to other team members throughout the nursery

- To learn about and work within the requirements set out in the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage – Setting the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to five
- Occasionally situations may arise that require the post holder to perform other duties or tasks as may be reasonably requested by the Society
- Develop a good knowledge of safeguarding issues and learn to identify signs of possible abuse or neglect and respond in a timely and appropriate way
- To contribute to a programme of learning experiences that meet the individual needs and interests of children in your area in conjunction with other team members
- The preparation and completion of activities to suit each individual child's stage of development and interests
- Engage in good team working and develop your role within the team
- Learn how to be a positive role model for parents, children and colleagues in all aspects of personal attitude, presentation and behaviour
- Work as part of a team to ensure effective staff deployment and ratios are met, being flexible on shift patterns to ensure children’s safety at all times. Take personal responsibility to inform senior members of the team if staff deployment falls below required levels
- Help children become familiar with the setting offering a settled relationship for the children, building a positive relationship with their parents and any other family members
- Learn how to develop and maintain strong partnerships and communications with parents/carers to facilitate day-to-day caring and early learning needs
- Learn how to engage and support parents and /or carers in guiding their children’s development at home
- To be involved in any overall nursery activities (including out of working hours activities) e.g. training, monthly staff meetings, parent evenings, fundraising events, volunteering etc.
- To be flexible within working practices of the nursery. Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake certain domestic jobs within the nursery, e.g. preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment etc.
- Work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure that the Childcare Groups values (DOES) are fulfilled
- To support the delivery of the Nursery Steering Wheel measures and work with the Manager and team to ensure targets are met
- Read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role
- Ensure the well being of children in your care
- Ensure Management and respective parents are notified of a poorly child immediately by learning what these signs are.
- Record accidents and ensure the Duty Nursery Manager has initialled the report before the parent receives it
- Look upon the nursery as a "whole" where can your help be most utilised, be constantly aware of the individual needs of all children
- Ensure someone known and agreed by the nursery and parent collects the child
- To respect the confidentiality of all information received
- All colleagues are responsible for ensuring that they are aware of their responsibilities under GDPR and will adhere to society policies to ensure compliance when processing personal data.
- Learn how to support with supervision of meals and mealtimes, and where appropriate, preparation of babies’ bottles, ensuring individual meal/milk requirements are met
- Ensure meal times are a time of pleasant social sharing. Sitting with children and learning how to support the development of children’s independence and table manners
- To wash and change children as required
- To learn how to ensure good standards of safety, security, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times
- Work towards learning how to manage children’s behaviour positively, communicate with parents to support the children’s developmental needs
- Take part in periodic one to one supervisions which are a two way communication process to monitor performance and development (minimum of one every 12 weeks)
- To attend training identified in your performance reviews or one to ones and any other training courses that are necessary for you to fulfil your role. (training may involve travelling to other locations)
- Work towards and understand the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice to support identified children’s needs and ensure the provision of a high-quality environment to meet the needs of individual children regardless of any disabilities, family backgrounds or medical history
- Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and others who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work. Ensure accident, incident and risk assessment records are maintained to an acceptable level and monitor the information therein
- To be aware of the high profile of the nursery and to uphold its standards at all times, both within work hours and outside
- Remain professional at all times with direct and indirect communication
- However, occasionally situations may arise that require the post holder to perform other duties or tasks as may be reasonably requested by the Society
Qualification: Children and Young People’s Workforce
Duration: 12 months
Course Type: Apprenticeship Framework
Apprenticeship Delivery: Work based qualification. A tutor will visit you every 4-6 weeks in your work place.
The programme is spread across 12 months and typically covers 14 units with the option to take on extra stretch and challenge units if desired. These units are split into 4 themes which complement each other and create a better learning experience:
- Health, Safety and Wellbeing
- Child Development
- Positive Environments
- Personal Development/Specialism
The programme will also require the apprentice to cover Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) which will be covered through the duration of the apprenticeship.
Apprentices also work towards a Level 2 qualification in English and maths in the first half of the programme if they have no prior exemption (GCSE’sA – C or equivalents in English and Maths).

- This is a fixed term contract of 18 months for a Level 2 qualification and 2 years for a Level 3 qualification. Successful completion of the apprenticeship programme may result in progression into a full time role within the Nursery
- Full training will be provided to gain a broad set of skills within the Childcare industry. Customer service is a key focus along with safeguarding and general duties in a nursery environment. You will develop confidence and competence including knowledge and understanding related to the job role through the completion of the apprenticeship programme. The training will also enhance softer skills development and Functional Skills in Mathematics and English where this is required. 20% off the job training is given to support your studies and achieving your qualification
- The expected duration of the Apprenticeship programme within Childcare is expected to be 18- 24 months depending on the qualification level as outlined above.
