Learning and Development Team Manager (Early Years)

Hawk is an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ provider of Apprenticeships located in Twickenham. We are an Investors in People (Gold) organisation operating throughout England but predominantly in London and the South East. We work with a diverse range of employers, supporting them in recruiting, training and developing their people through our engaging apprenticeship provision. Our main sectors of delivery include Early Years, Leadership and Management, Business and Administration, Warehousing and Trade Business Services and Improving Operational Performance.

We are looking for an ambitious and agile Team Manager to successfully lead a team of around 10-12 tutors delivering early years apprenticeships in the field. You will be one of a current team of 5 managers responsible for overseeing the provision of around 2000 apprentices across a diverse range of employers from SMEs to large national organisations. You will be responsible for analysing and reviewing the performance of your team and identifying actions which will support the retention of our learners.

The work-based learning sector has undergone radical change over the last 12 months with the introduction of the apprenticeship levy. As well as managing your team to deliver quality and meet performance targets, you will be the main point of contact for large accounts. You will meet quarterly with these employers to ensure the provision meets their needs and change is communicated effectively, working closely with the Business Development Team.

This opportunity involves the management of a team of early years tutors operating mainly within London and the South East, though occasional travel to other parts of England will be necessary. The role is home-based as you will be out in the field with your team and visiting employers. You will be required to attend the Twickenham office for team and management meetings/events around 2-3 times per month.

Key responsibilities of the Learning and Development Team Manager:

  • Lead your team of tutors to deliver outstanding provision
  • Manage performance in a way that promotes continuous improvement and recognises good and outstanding practice
  • Manage change and create a culture of empowerment
  • Manage quality and compliance
  • Manage resources effectively ensuring timely allocation of tutors to apprentices
  • Relationship and account management
  • Deliver accurate reports and projections to the senior management team
  • Feed into forecasting and planning, both from an operational and financial perspective.

Skills set and experience of the Learning and Development Team Manager:

  • Experienced in delivering apprenticeships or managing early years provision (3 years’ minimum),
  • Assessor and IQA qualified
  • Proven management experience (2’ years minimum)
  • Passionate about education and developing others
  • Resilient and agile
  • Commercial awareness and ability to see the bigger picture
  • Strong ability to interpret financial data and feed into financial planning and forecasting
  • Exceptional communication skills; written, verbal and listening
  • Excellent presentation and report writing skills
  • High degree of initiative, efficiency and strong attention to detail
  • Strong IT skills, including all Microsoft Office applications
  • A positive role model to promote and embrace our values and culture
  • Full clean driving licence, willing to travel to other parts of England
