In 2012 Flints moved into our current distribution warehouse in Deptford.  This has allowed us to continue to expand our operations in the UK and overseas.


Overall Purpose
To receive, store and despatch goods.  To improve the efficiency of our warehouse operations by taking responsibility for some operations in the warehouse.  

In addition the Warehouse Assistant may help out in other departments if needed. They will also have a list of daily and weekly duties.

The Warehouse Apprentice will be provided with the opportunity to complete a fully certified Apprenticeship in Warehousing.

Main Duties

  • To book in deliveries using the EWS computer system, storing the goods in the correct locations and highlighting any issues to the Goods In Supervisor
  • To pick and pack sales orders using the EWS system highlighting any issues to the Goods Out Supervisor
  • To undertake daily housekeeping duties
  • To undertake projects within the warehouse including re-locating stock, re-labelling locations and replacing storage equipment.
  • To attend meetings 
  • To inform management of any health & safety problems
  • To suggest any improvements or ideas that would be of benefit to the company
  • To act in the best interest of the company at all times

Location & Hours
The position will be based at the company’s warehouse in Deptford although  some attendance will be required at our Trade Counter at Queens Row, Walworth and at our Hires railway arch at the Elephant & Castle.  


Training provided by employer
Full induction including health & safety and manual handling. Some additional training in the workshop may be available depending on the age and aptitude of the successful applicant.  

Future Prospects
Flints have a track record of taking on apprentices into full-time employment although this is not guaranteed and will depend on quality of work demonstrated by the apprentice and staffing needs at the time.  Two of our former apprentices are now in supervisory roles.

Skills required

The Warehouse Apprentice will be physically fit, organised, reliable, honest and able to work without supervision on occasion.

  • Must be numerate and computer literate
  • Abe to work as part of a team

Must be able to demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in warehouse operations.


Training provided

Qualification:  Supply Chain Warehouse Operative
Level: 2
Duration: 15 months
Course Type: Apprenticeship Standard 

Apprenticeship Delivery: Work based qualification. A tutor will visit you every 4-6 weeks in your work place.


Units Covered:
The programme is spread across 13 months and typically covers 10 units with the option to take on extra stretch and challenge units if desired. These units are split into 3 themes which complement each other and create a better learning experience:

            1) Working Safely in a Warehouse

            2) Working with others

            3) Operations and Administration


The programme will also require the apprentice to cover Employee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)


Functional Skills: 
Apprentices also work towards a Level 2 qualification in English and maths in the first half of the programme if they have no prior exemption (GCSE’s  A – C or equivalents in English and Maths).
