From 1 April 2011, the management of community health services in Lambeth and Southwark transferred from the local Primary Care Trusts to Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, marking a new era for community services locally.

The integration of community services into GSTT provides an opportunity for staff to help shape services so they better suit patient needs, balance demands across the whole system and create a seamless care pathway for patients.

Vacancy Description: 

To Provide an efficient and effective reception, clerical and administrative support service to designated teams within the Trust. Duties incude: 

  • Assist in the provision of an efficient and courteous reception service for the trust
  • Meet and Greet visitors to the department as required
  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, relatives and carers
  • Keep patients informed of any expected waiting periods or delays to appointment times
  • Support the bookings and co-ordinating of patient appointments using IT systems
  • Provide a range of administrative support functions including filing, photocopying, word processing, data inputting
  • Collect and distribute post for the department
  • Obtain clinical and non clinical records
  • Liaise with other departments and wards within the hospital
  • Assist with the ordering and maintenance of stock supplies

Qualifications Required:​

  • Previous experience is not essential as training will be given.
  • GCSEs Maths and English A-C or equivalent desirable.

  • The ability to travel between sites independently

Future prospects:

  • After successful completion of the Apprenticeship candidates will be able to apply for vacancies across the NHS.

Things to consider: 

  • You must be available to attend a Hawk Training assessment day based in Twickenham on Tuesday 17th October 2017.
  • Working hours will be: Monday – Friday, 8.00am – 6.00 (please be aware that some shift work may be required)
  • Please note that some posts may be based in the community (eg not at the main hospital sites) We have two main hospital sites at London Bridge and Waterloo with a number of community sites in South London.
  • Please note that yoou will be subject to an Enhanced DBS clearance

Qualification Structure:

Successful candidate will be provided with the opportunity to complete a fully certified Intermediate Apprenticeship in Business Administration, which will cover the following frame work:

BTEC Level 2 in Business Administration
Employers Rights and Responsibilities
Functional Skills in ICT, Math and English
Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage:
This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour.
